Kenya has announced its arrival on the global rafting stage after Team Kenya delivered a remarkable performance at the conclusion of the 2026 World Rafting Cup and African Rafting Championship held on home soil.

The three-day international competition came to a thrilling close with the Slalom event, a discipline where precision, technical ability, teamwork, and river-reading skills determine success.

Unlike the high-speed Sprint and RX (Head-to-Head) categories, Slalom tested the athletes’ mastery of the rapids as teams navigated through challenging gates while fighting against the power of the river.

In the World Rafting Cup Slalom Category, Team Kenya once again proved its ability to compete among the world’s best.

The Kenyan team secured:

🥉 Bronze Medal – Men’s Category
🥉 Bronze Medal – Women’s Category
🥈 Silver Medal – Para-Rafting Category

The achievement added to Kenya’s growing reputation as a competitive force in international rafting, with athletes going head-to-head against established European teams that have dominated the sport for years.

In the African Rafting Championship Slalom Category, Team Kenya completely dominated the competition, sweeping the podium across all categories.

Kenya claimed medals in:

  • Men’s Category

  • Women’s Category

  • Mixed Category

  • Para-Rafting Category

The final African championship medal tally stood at:

🏅 4 Gold Medals
🥈 3 Silver Medals
🥉 3 Bronze Medals

The outstanding display confirmed Kenya’s dominance on the continent and cemented its position as the leading rafting nation in Africa.

At the end of the three-day championship, Team Kenya accumulated an impressive overall medal haul:

🏅 11 Gold Medals
🥈 11 Silver Medals
🥉 14 Bronze Medals

The achievement marks a major milestone for rafting in Kenya, a sport that is still developing but has demonstrated enormous potential through talent, dedication, and investment.

The success of Team Kenya sends a powerful message to the global rafting community — Kenya is ready to compete.

Despite being a relatively young rafting nation compared to European powerhouses that have years of experience and established systems, Kenyan athletes showed confidence, skill, and determination throughout the championship.

Competing on the challenging waters of Sagana, Team Kenya proved that home advantage, combined with hard work and passion, can produce world-class results.

Beyond the podium finishes, the championship has created a new chapter for Kenya’s adventure tourism industry.

The event showcased the potential of Kenyan rivers as sporting destinations while introducing more people to white-water rafting as a sport, tourism experience, and career opportunity.

For many Kenyans, this championship was an introduction to a sport built on teamwork, courage, resilience, and a deep connection with nature.

As the paddles are lowered and the championship comes to an end, one message remains clear:

Kenya’s rafting journey has only just begun.

From the rapids of Sagana to the global stage, Team Kenya has shown that with determination and opportunity, African athletes can compete and win against the very best in the world.
